Intensive Out-patient Program (IOP)

The Intensive Out-Patient Program offers education and therapy to treat the whole person – not just the substance using behaviour. At GreeneStone, we understand that in-patient treatment is not appropriate or practical for everyone suffering from addictions, which is why we have designed our out-patient program to meet the needs of those individuals who wish to participate in intensive addiction therapy, while continuing to maintain their day-to-day lives.

The program incorporates both individual and group therapy sessions, over a period of three months, and is facilitated by experienced, empathetic professionals. Since individuals who suffer from addictions often require immediate treatment, admission into this program
operates on continuous basis.

The two modes of group sessions included in the IOP are psycho-educational and therapeutic process. Psycho-educational sessions are holistic in nature and are facilitated by Certified Addiction Therapists, a Registered Dietician and a Stress-Management Therapist. They focus on coping skill development, identification of triggers and high-risk situations, rebuilding relationships, enhancing self-esteem, relapse prevention training, dietary counselling, educating individuals on the impact of substance abuse on brain chemistry, as well as learning to managing emotions such as depression, anger and anxiety. Therapeutic process groups offers individuals the opportunity to explore underlying issues associated with their addiction and gain the insight, encouragement and empowerment to move forward in their recovery.

Individual therapy sessions are incorporated into the program and are tailored to meet the unique needs of each person participating. They are facilitated by Certified Addiction Therapists and utilize several evidence-based practices including; Motivational Interviewing (MI), Dialectical-Behavioural Therapy (DBT), Cognitive-Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness Training.
